Lorena is an award winning quilter and pattern designer known for her original designs and clever techniques, she specialises in finding a number of ways to employ one technique and to push it as far as it can go often employing fabric in clever or unexpected ways. She teaches regularly in Sydney and has been invited to teach, interstate and internationally. Lorena regularly exhibited her work overseas at QUILTCON, The Modern Quilt Guild show in the USA.
Many of you know Lorena’s work from her Instagram account @lorena_in_syd. If you hop on there and have a look you can see a lot of the style of work and teaching that Lorena does and projects that she is able to teach in this catch all class. Scrolling through you will see the kinds of results that her students achieve. Lorena Uriarte has an impressive range of quilts that fill her teaching bag of tricks. In this ‘Anything Goes’ series of classes you will be able to spend some time discussing Lorena’s motivations and hear about her design process and make a start on or continue on with your version of any of Lorena’s award winning quilts or projects.
Lorena has taught at Berry Quilt & Co as a visiting tutor before but this is her first year as a regular on the schedule. A great chance to get really stuck into a project of Lorena’s and see it through. Handwork, machine work, turning Kawandi from a class into a retreat bag, preparing a quilt for a quilt coat class? English paper piecing, fussy cutting, using the Opal Essence tempates and much more is possible.
Start some Chuck Nohara small appliqué blocks and work towards a Chuck Nohara quilt. Some Plan out and work on the Ring Cycles Quilt or begin any of Lorena’s modern quilts like Sakura Breeze or Positive or Negative. Make your version of the memorable Opal Essence Quilt or use the templates to make other versions. Try one of the modern ‘oversized block’ quilts like the Mega Courthouse Steps or Winding Ways. Begin or continue, a Kawandi Project or Emmaline Retreat Bag. Play with hand pieced English paper pieced & fussy cut shapes like those seen in Blissful Abandon or try an English paper Pieced Mini Opal Essence quilt. There is a LOT to choose from. Occasionally a pattern purchase is required and occasionally templates are needed for a project.
Classes are $80 per class. (OR $70 if a series are booked and attended consecutively.)
