Quilt Coats are the thing of the moment!!! Would you like support and a bit of hand holding to make one?? Lorena has helped create many an amazing quilt coat in the past year including a sold out class at Quilt Symposium in NZ. Now you have a chance to sacrifice a quilt or make one specially to be a coat. Info available prior to class on what to make or what types of quilts and patterns are most successful. Get in touch if you’re interested and we can have a char and you can get planning!
Lorena is an award winning quilter and pattern designer known for her original ideas and clever techniques, she specialises in finding a number of ways to employ one technique and to push it as far as it can go, often employing fabric in clever, unexpected ways. In class, Lorena gives you tools to explore your own creativity. Check out Lorena’s website www.lorenauriarte.com and her instagram @lorena_in_syd Lorena teaches regularly in Sydney at quilt shops and other sewing venues and has been invited to teach, interstate and internationally. Lorena is regularly selected to exhibit at QUILTCON, The Modern Quilt Guild show in the USA.
Lorena Says about the coats:
If you’ve got any quilts that no longer spark joy, turn them into a coat! In this workshop you will learn how to transform your quilts into cosy coats using a pattern suitable for most sizes. This is a hands-on class cutting quilts and sewing them up into a wearable garment in two days. You may use a quilt you’ve already made, prequilted fabric or make the quilted panels specifically to make into a coat. Yes, this is a great opportunity to repurpose those orphan blocks and unfinished projects.
We will cover a variety of pocket, button, collar and hood options. Also, how different wadding, quilting and lining affects the look and feel of your final quilted coat. By the end of this workshop students should have a constructed a quilt coat, some binding may need to be done at home. You will need a quilt with a minimum of 60” x 60” of useable quilted space. Further requirements and considerations will be provided with the supplies list. Students will need to bring their own pattern to class, I recommend the Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio or the Patchwork Chore Coat by Patchwork & Poodles both available online as a PDF.
Pleas give us a call or reach out by email if you have questions. There will be little prep to do for this class and fortunately we have a few months to get our questions in to Lorena & get started on our planning.
