About Berry Quilt & Co.

Hi There,  Welcome to Berry Quilt & Co!

You may know us as the busy bricks and mortar patchwork and quilting store in the beautiful historic village of Berry on the NSW South Coast. Sadly in January 2024 we lost our lease and had to close the doors on our beloved retail space. We are now reinventing ourselves. Our online store offering is growing and you will soon find us popping up at events that we couldn’t manage when we had a busy retail store to run.  We hope you will stay on or sign up to our email list to find out what is happening as it happens and we look forward to sending you a parcel or seeing you at a pop up event soon!

We are all about being surrounded by beautiful fabric, celebrating handmade, having fun and of course making, using or gifting colourful, cozy quilts. We are on a journey with you to learn new skills, build confidence, create beautiful things, inspire each other and make friends!

Established by Elizabeth Dubbelde in 1999, we have always been a popular destination for local quilters and holiday-makers. The business was purchased in early 2016 by Sharon & John Thomson. Trading under the new name Berry Quilt & Co, we have gained a reputation as a friendly and welcoming bricks and mortar store with lots going on.

In 2018, we were lucky to expand into a the next door shop, creating a much larger and brighter, beautiful store space. We opened an online store in 2018. The business has now been serving the town of Berry and surrounds for more than 21 years and continues to grow!

At the end of our lease in early 2024, we will transition to an online and pop-up shop. The journey of our business will continue as we find new ways to serve the sewing community of the Illawarra and South Coast without a physical store. Make sure you sign up to our email newsletter to hear all about our latest fabric, supplies and events.

We are in the process of transitioning from a busy brick and mortar shop to an online and pop-up store. Our beautiful store closed its doors for good at 4pm on Wed 24th January 2024. Our online store continues to carry our By Annie bag making range, sashiko supplies and all our available kits and bundles. During 2024 we will continue to grow our online store including uploading all our yardage. A project that hasn’t been possible while running our physical store.

Sharon Thomson

Store owner Sharon Thomson never met a craft she didn't like but patchwork and quilting have been at the top of the list since picking up casual teaching work with Berry Patchwork when first moving to Berry around 17 years ago. Fast forward to today. Sharon is now the owner of the business, now called Berry Quilt & Co. and has captained it through 8yrs of busy brick and mortar retail. Currently, after the loss of the store lease, Sharon is reinventing the business in new ways.

Sharon is; A teacher, teaching at Berry Quilt & Co, for various guilds in Australia and at the Australasian Quilt Convention in 2024; A designer who has a number of patterns in Quilters Companion and Homespun magazine; A quilt judge, having judged at many levels form local guild challenges, rural show societies and the last Australian Modern Quilt Show; A maker of all sorts and an enthusiastic Modern and Abstract quilter. Sharon is big supporter of groups and guilds and volunteers whenever she can for Quilt NSW and is the Vice President of Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild. At home she has a hubby, three daughters with only one left at school, two cats and a shiny new shed aka 'online fulfilment' centre! Follow her on instagram @marmalade_hill

The Team

Charlotte Duncan began her sewing journey as student of Sharon's way back in the Berry Patchwork Days, before 2014. Her skills have grown in that time and she joined our team when we began as Berry Quilt & Co. in 2016. She works one day a week filling orders and keeping our stock levels in shape! She's a busy girl, the rest of the time she works for Nowra Anglican College, runs a dietician practice and looks after her two high school age boys boys, her fireman hubby and an assortment of dogs and horses. Follow her on instagram @charliedunc5

Jo Rudd joined the team at Berry Quilt & Co. when we had our brick and mortar store, were growing and needed additional floor staff. Jo is a compulsive maker and has tried everything from punch needle embroidery to knitting, spinning and more. She vowed she didn't need a new craft but we have lured her to the darkside and now in between organising her family and moving house, she has made several gorgeous quilts and is talking the lingo!
