We have been trying to organise Lynn to come and teach Noriko Endo’s Impressionist Quilt technique ‘Confetti Naturescapes’ for such a long time! AND 2023 is the year!! Lynn has travelled Japan extensively, led tours for many years where she originally learned from this technique from Noriko. Lynn received permission from Norioko to teach the technique and has continued to explore it over the years.
Generally patchwork is cutting fabric in to small pieces and joining it back to gather again. Confetti Naturescapes involve chopping fabric into tiny confetti sized pieces with a rotary cutter and sprinkling them onto a background, covering it with tulle and ‘scribbling over it with the machine to hold it all together. The technique lends itself to recreating a favourite photograph of nature as you can see from the examples below. Your landscapes are rendered in a distinctly impressionist style and can become a treasured artwork.
Check out Noriko Endo’s website.
About Lynn Hewitt: Lynn is an accredited quilt tutor and well renowned teacher of various methods. She has a close association with Japan having led many tours there over the years. These frequent trips to Japan have influenced Lynn’s recent works, and she enjoys exploring new techniques which she likes to share with her students. She is an ardent promotor of all things quilting, particularly focussing on encouraging creativity and design. She loves to share her extensive knowledge with her students and no matter your level of experience, you will walk away from her class with new tips and tricks up your sleeve.
Lynn has been making quilts for 30 years and teaching Patchwork and Quilting for 29 years. She has twice been President of The Quilters ’Guild of NSW ( now QuiltNSW), and is on the Teacher Accreditation and Judging sub-committees. She has judged 34 Quilt Show including Country Quilt Shows in NSW as well as major Quilt Shows in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Darwin.
In 2017 at the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne, Lynn was presented with the Rajah Award for outstanding contribution to quilting in Australia. This award is named after the ship the “ Rajah” which transported convict women to Tasmania in 1841. Elizabeth Fry, a Quaker in England organised sewing supplies for the women to make quilts on the voyage, keeping them busy, and providing them with a means of earning some money by being able to sell quilts at ports along the way.
