Jo Dixey has developed a cult following in Berry and surrounds for her relaxed but inspiring stitching classes and her clever take on design and appliqué. In a class with Jo Dixey you will learn time tested methods for handling fabric, needles and thread to make a family heirloom, a contemporary sampler, protest text piece, a funky clothes patch or just enjoy discovering the magic of what needles and threads and fabric can create together. Jo runs a relaxed but highly inspirational classroom where everyone is enthusiastically sharing the wonders of what needle and thread can do. So it’s not surprising that Jo has built up a loyal following in Australia! Come along to a class and you will benefit from the calm, yet creative atmosphere she fosters in her classroom, her fabulous teaching skills, her impeccable knowledge of her subject & her mastery of technique. Incredibly this will be her sixth teaching trip to Berry from NZ and we would have had her a couple more times by now if it had not been for the very inconvenient covid interruptions!!
Jo is full of stories about her life as a professional embroiderer both in NZ and the UK where she trained at the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court Palace as an apprentice for four years, Jo is a very rare professional embroiderer! As well as writing a fabulous book of contemporary approaches to stitch called Creative Stitch, she is regularly commissioned for stitch work for feature films as well as the catwalk and ecclesiastical applications AND inbetween all that, teaches incredible skill building, embroidery classes to a wide range of audiences. Jo is the author of the fabulous skill building embroidery book Creative Thread which we always have in stock!
This class is to work on a mini landscape as pictured using Jo’s favourite long and short stitch. Over two days Jo will help you work out your design, choose your threads, colour palette and begin stitching your landscape. Below are images of the Mini Landscapes that will be taught class and some other eye candy of previous things that Jo has taught. If mini landscapes aren’t your thing and you’d like to make a contemporary embroidery sampler as pictured get in touch.
This class is designed to be a two-day work shop. If you are a hard-core embroiderer and two days isn’t enough you are welcome to sign up for the Monday as well and continue your stitching along side the patchworkers. Jo is very used to teaching large groups who are all working on different things and many have taken thsi approaching previous years. Three days with Jo is like a mini retreat!!
You can make bookings here for the weekend for $220 per class. If you are keen to book the three day ‘deal’ please phone us to get the $50 discount of $280 for all three days of learning with Jo. The mini landscapes class is a two day class.
