Description
“Sashiko” means “little stabs” and is a traditional Japanese embroidery style which dates back to the edo period. It is a practical and beautiful style perfect for embroidery projects, mending and quilting. This distinctive sashiko sampler has been stencilled using both traditional and contemporary designs. Following the lines of the printed design, stitches of sashiko thread define the image.
The panel is pre-stencilled eliminating the need to mark the fabric before starting to sashiko stitch. All the pre-stencilled markings wash off in tepid water when complete and each panel comes with a stitching guide and tips. The panels are printed on 100% cotton indigo fabric. DO NOT prewash before stitching. This design is also available here on a white fabric.
Stitch using Sashiko thread, you can use all one colour or add different colours to provide decorative embellishment to your piece. Use the completed panel to make a Japanese kitchen towel or incorporate it in a sewing project or quilting project. The pattern recommends using 2 skeins of 20m sashiko thread or 1 x 80m ball of thin sashiko thread. Make sure you check out all our Olympus Sashiko threads listed here. And our Sashiko Needles are here.
