Chris Jurd Pickled Fish Blocks

Sharon Thomson

DATE: Sunday 15th July

CLASS: Learn to make the Pickled Fish Blocks with Chris

COST: $70 pp 10am – 3.30pm

Chris Jurd’s quilts are immediately recognisable for their fearless curves, points and colour and Chris is well known as an experienced and organised teacher accredited by QuiltNSW.

In this one day class Chris will introduce you to her Pickled-Fish block. This block is Chris’s contemporary take on the traditional ‘pickle-dish’ block. In class you will learn to construct the block by machine using foundation papers, taking the fear from your curves and points.

You have the choice to make the block on it’s own as a learning exercise or you can go on to make many more and complete a quilt top.

About Chris Jurd

Chris Jurd lives in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney and has been quilting for over 30 years. She started teaching 17 years ago, and has a busy schedule of classes throughout the year at various shops in Sydney and regional NSW. She is on the faculty for New Zealand’s Quilt Symposium in Christchurch in 2017 and is currently Membership Secretary of QuiltNSW, Australia’s largest quilting guild.

Chris’ work encompasses all styles with an emphasis on a strong colour palette and a preference at the moment for foundation piecing. Chris has been a regular contributor to Quilters Companion and has recorded two DVDs for the magazine. As tour leader, she is taking an enthusiastic group of Aussie quilters to Houston again this year. She has been lucky enough to win several prizes over the years for her quilts including a 1stat the 2011 Sydney Quilt Show for her quilt “Lots of Dots”. She is also a great advocate for machine quilting on a domestic machine.
