A panel from the Berry Patchwork days vault! This small 100% cotton panel measuring approx 60 cm x 55cms is a reproduction of an early 1800s woodblock printed design by John Hewson in Philadelphia.
The panel was designed by Kathy Hall and printed under licence from the Winterthur Museum in Delaware by Andover Fabrics.
Click on the pictures above to see quilt ideas featuring the panel in the centre. You could use the panel like this or buy a few and cut out the elements to make a larger brodrie perse composition. I think it could be really lovely! You can see one of the original quilts made at the time by Zebia S Hewson pictured above as well as the quilt by Jean Ann Wright that was made to advertise the reproduction Hewson fabric range at the time of its replease. Thanks to Barbara Brackman and Merikay Waldvogel’s Chintz Panel’s in Quilts blog for this information.
