The Fanciful Quilt designed by Helen Draper has been a hit with those who love applique and piecing in a block. The curved piecing will extend you if you haven’t attempted it before but the instruction in the pattern will get you across the line. Helen has written this quilt pattern to be made entirely by hand, using templates you make yourself but you could adapt it easily to make it by machine. (Although the English paper pieced flower wreaths would still need to be prepared by hand before appliquéing down)
Fanciful is a great size to use as a lap quilt, to pretty up the back of your couch or it makes a stunning wall hanging. It finishes up approx. 147cm square (58″ square). We’ve chosen a blue and yellow colourway for this quilt rather than the orange and pink pictured on the pattern cover. You will have sunny yellow flower centres, A the perfect yellow and blue floral of a similar scale to the original quilt in the centres of the ‘wedding ring’ blocks, Sky blue and yellow prints for the flower petals in the ‘wreath blocks’, white on dark blue prints for the ‘wedding ring’ arcs and a fabulous starry circle white on navy for the scalloped border. We love this cooler version of the quilt which will have happy pops of yellow livening it up.
Your kit contains all the fabrics needed make the appliquéd and pieced blocks and the scalloped border. It doesn’t not contain backing or binding. You would need to have some template plastic on hand to begin right away. This kit does contain the exact fabrics pictured above. We often have feedback that people have enjoyed making up our fabric choices and the way our kits are packaged and organised with a key card so you know which fabric is which.
